What is customised sound therapy?

Sound has been used for thousands of years to provide effective relief from the symptoms of tinnitus. Low cost masking devices and sound generators  play sounds that cover the whole frequency region and are known as broadband sounds (white noise). They are designed to cover up or mask the tinnitus sound. Their success rate varies and most can be highly ineffective at interfering with the mechanisms responsible for the tinnitus symptoms.

In recent years, new exciting technology from the U.S. has been developed by leading hearing care researchers at the University of California. Special treatment tones, called S-Tones have been clinically proven to interfere with tinnitus. We can offer short term trials of the Serenade device.

Why is customised treatment better?

Setting up the treatment sounds to match the patient’s hearing and tinnitus profile can have a significant interference effect within just a few weeks. More importantly, the treatment sounds can be played at a very low volume and are less intrusive that traditional sound generators and maskers.

We watch new and emerging technologies carefully and are able to provide a range of advanced tinnitus treatment options from around the world.
